It is getting colder outdoors, but the Janesville Craig girls basketball team is as hot as July from 3-point range.

The Cougars followed up their 13 made 3-point-shooting performance against Janesville Parker last Saturday with 15 3s Friday night in an 86-63 Big Eight Conference victory at Beloit Memorial.

Craig coach Kerry Storbakken was proud of the way his young team bounced back after its loss against Parker six days earlier.

“The Parker loss stung a little,” Storbakken said. “But they came back ready to practice, and had a good week.

“They came in ready to play from the start.”

That was especially true for Cassie Goswick. The sophomore guard made four 3-pointers and a layup as the Cougars shot out to a 19-1 lead.

Goswick finished with 27 points with six 3s. She had 24 points on eight 3s against Parker.

Emily Pierson and Claudia Fieiras each added 14 points as the Cougars went to 3-3 in the Big Eight.

“They come in and bring it every game,” Storbakken said. “I like how they approach the game.”

The Cougars will play their first nonconference game of the season when they travel to Lake Geneva to take on the Badgers on Thursday night.
